Using the Ted Reed "Syncopation" book for many genres of music has been one of the keys to my growth as a drummer.
Here I used page 33 from Mr. Reed's book as a basis for playing and embellishing the Samba.
This exercise was first introduced to me by my very good friend and teacher, Dom Moio who was taught to use this method by the late and great Alan Dawson.
